about

. . . this website:

wehavenoproduct is a sometimes something new photo site. I started posting photos back in 2003. Since then, I have had varying a degree of success updating the site with a steady stream of new photos.

Originally, I simply made mass updates to the site when I got around to processing photos from a few weeks of shooting. Then, a little later on, I decided to try posting a new photo every day. I naively believed that posting one lousy picture a day would be a challenge, but a very reasonable one. However, having a camera with me all the time and updating the site frequently was a drastic change of pace. I only managed to keep it up a while.

Ultimately, I stressed myself out over the quality of what I was producing with the once a day grind. (I also thoroughly convinced myself that I had photographed every square inch of Portland, ME and I needed a change of scenery -- the truth of this is debatable).

So, I ended up putting my camera down one day and didn't pick it back up again for a long time.

I always expected that I would start again -- I just didn't think I would take as much time off as I did. I was really surprised when I moved away from Portland and I still had no desire to take photographs.

But eventually, I did resume taking photographs. It started slowly at first. I was home sick one day and took a handful of photos around the apartment. I had insomnia another night and lugged my camera around the neighborhood taking photos of shadows. Once again, I was looking around seeing the world making pretty pictures for me.

I am not posting photos on any reliable schedule anymore; I am not repeating my mistake of making a daily posting for the sake of it. I will post photos when I have some good photos to post. I will probably try new things and experiment with the format. I used to have all these rules about my photos: I always do this -- I never do that! But I am going to try to leave that behind and concentrate on just enjoying photography. I am pretty sure that is supposed to be the point after all.

Enjoy.
